The Motu Link Airline Journey

Created in 2018 by a child of the Fenua, Motu Link Airline was born from a simple yet powerful ambition: to offer fairer, more accessible air transport truly designed for French Polynesia. This project, deeply rooted in local values — humility, boldness, ingenuity, and knowledge transfer — has given rise to a human and collective adventure, driven by women and men from the region.

The story begins in 2017 at the French Polynesia Civil Aviation Authority, where the paths of the three co-founders first crossed. A synergy was born between three professionals convinced that a new path was possible for local air transport. Complementary skills, diverse expertise, and above all, a shared desire to build a bold project that truly serves the real needs of the population.

The three founders want to prove that an alternative model is possible — one that is firmly rooted in the reality of the Fenua. As early as 2018, the facts were clear:

From an idea to a company

The project takes shape

In 2020, despite the global health crisis, the vision began to take shape. On January 28, 2021, Motu Link Airline (SAS) was officially founded.

The project: a hybrid airline offering both passenger and cargo transport, built on a low-cost model. In October, the air transport license was officially granted.

A human and local adventure

Two shipowners joined the venture with the vision of creating a maritime-air hub.
Three rounds of funding structured the project.
In 2024, a crowdfunding campaign raised 380 million Pacific Francs, with 72% of investors coming from the local community.

A strategic shift: freight

Refocusing on what matters

At the end of 2023, a new market study changed everything.

In a competitive context, one fact stood out: freight is the top priority.

Motu Link decided to drop passenger services and focus entirely on cargo, aiming to become a key development tool for the islands.

The airplane, a powerful symbol

ATR - a strategic choice

After a leasing project fell through, the team turned to ATR.

In July 2024, Motu Link was selected among three competing projects.

In August, an agreement was signed for a refurbished ATR 72-500, converted into a cargo aircraft.

The plane is undergoing a full overhaul, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2025.
